The Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a motivated tenure-track, academic year, faculty to join a collaborative statewide community as Director of the Rutgers University Marine Field Station (RUMFS). The candidate is expected to expand and develop an internationally recognized research program, mentor graduate students in the candidate’s area of expertise, and be involved in undergraduate teaching. Depending on research interests, the successful candidate will have the option to join the Center for Fisheries and Ocean Sustainability and/or the Center for Ocean Observing Leadership.
RUMFS has a decades long history of research in fisheries and marsh ecology that is expanding as part of a state-wide coastal marine research station network including the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve, Haskin Shellfish Research Laboratories, New Jersey Aquaculture Innovation Center, and the Sandy Hook Cooperative Ecosystem Study Unit. This network of laboratories is embedded within coastal ecosystems and communities where hands-on research, teaching and outreach opportunities abound. RUMFS is located on the seaward edge of the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve within the New Jersey Pinelands National Reserve (a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve), and on the inshore edge of a world-renowned long-term coastal ocean observatory. Housed within the Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences with >50 faculty, the position will be a creative bridge drawing upon numerous strengths across Rutgers, including growing collaborations within the Rutgers Energy Institute in the area of offshore wind energy development, and within the Rutgers Institute of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences in the area of coastal resiliency.
Candidate must have a Ph.D..
While the full range of faculty positions will be considered, preference is given to a mid-career candidate with a research, teaching and service record that will empower their pursuit of long-term cross-disciplinary partnerships and program-building goals.
