The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alabama in Huntsville seeks candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor position in evolutionary biology/genetics. Researchers using molecular, cellular or computational techniques are encouraged to apply.The department values diversity, and we are committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community. Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline and postdoctoral experience. Faculty are expected to engage in funded research, to mentor graduate and undergraduate research, and to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level. Teaching assignments will primarily be in evolution and genetics but may include cell or organismal biology, depending on background.

The starting date for the position will be August, 2018.

The Department of Biological Sciences is housed in the Shelby Center for Science and Technology with spacious, well-equipped teaching and research facilities. Collaborative research activity is encouraged with the Hudson Alpha Institute for Biotechnology, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, and more than a dozen biotechnology companies in Cumming’s Research Park, all of which are located minutes away from the university. Cummings Research Park is the 2nd largest research park in the United States with over 285 high technology companies. Huntsville is a mid-sized city located in beautiful north Alabama, an area that boasts a reasonable cost of living and ample recreational and cultural opportunities.
